Jump Jump

So…in honor of Salubrious September, I decided to challenge myself with a piece of classic cardio equipment…

The Jump Rope!

For less than $3 you can have your very own high intensity workout. I am using the Gold’s Gym Speed Rope from Walmart.

And for the record…I’m not very good. YET!

I’ve played around with it tonight and I do enjoy it. I am betting this will be just the ticket for interval training.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not the type that likes to hop on the treadmill and sprint 5 miles. The great thing about interval training is that you can get the same results (and fatigue)  but you can use simple moves. Jumping rope, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, etc. Do them at a high intensity (balls to the wall) for 20 seconds, then recover for 10 and repeat the vicious cycle for 8 rounds. By the end you should feel like death. Shape has a great article on Tabata training.

I love the elliptical trainer but sadly I’m without access to one at the moment. One thing I’ve noticed about using cardio machines is that I tend to space out or focus solely on the numbers. Movement is movement, so in the end I know that an unfocused workout is better than none at all, but I want to be present!

Jumping rope leaves no time to be unfocused.

Not gonna lie…when jumping rope I am Rocky Balboa training for his fight. I LOVE all of the Rocky movies, guilty pleasure for sure.

I love that it proves no matter where you are (America or Siberia) even if you don’t have access to fancy workout equipment, you can always get a good workout in.

And classic jams from the 80s never hurt!

So the moral of the story is when you can’t master pull ups, doing them over a fire might prove to help your form.
