“Variety is the spice of life!”

And what could be spicier than 2 girls kicking it up in the kitchen, looking fantastic and violating various health codes*?

*cause Brittany won’t cook without her dog next to her

So let’s meet the authors:

Hi! My name is Vanessa and I’m a 24 year old writer, voracious reader, political junkie, fashion addict, and blossoming foodie. I also happen to be the daughter of an incredible cook. Unfortunately, despite looking exactly like my mom, I got shorted in cooking ability. For twenty-odd years, this wasn’t a big deal because I never had to cook. My mom was happy to do it. But then I moved off campus (goodbye nasty cafeteria food!) and got my own apartment. I couldn’t cook much beyond spaghetti, macaroni from a box, and grilled cheese. Thanks to my mom, I know good food. So my three dish rotation got old real fast and I knew I had to change something, both for my sanity and my health. Let’s be honest, I’m not 16 anymore and neither is my metabolism!

So that’s where the blogging began, I made it a goal to become healthier and more creative in the kitchen. I started out slowly, following recipes exactly for fear of messing something up. With time, patience, and a lot of my mom’s help, I got better and better, until I was changing up recipes I found online, creating my own recipes from scratch and even *gasp* preparing raw meat!  I’ve come a long way, but I’m still learning. I still have to make 11th hour rescue calls to my mom (“How likely am I to get food poisoning from undercooked French toast?”, “It’s 8 o’clock, I’m starving, and this chicken isn’t cooking!”) and there are plenty of amusing mishaps in the kitchen. I’m so excited to be working on this blog with an amazing girl I’ve known since I was a fresh faced 8th grader and I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it!
Blogger number 2:
Hello! Brittany here.  I’m a newlywed, military wife with a passion for cooking delicious and nutritious food. My husband encourages my cooking and baking addiction, and is a willing recipe taste tester. Cooking for 2 is not always an easy task, especially when the 2 have differing taste buds, but I am happy to adjust where necessary. Together we are going to explore new cuisines, cultures and more!

I grew up surrounded by a family that loved food. My mom’s family couldn’t be outdone on their holiday spreads. My dad knew his way around a kitchen, and was always willing to experiment with recipes. My Polish grandmother gave me a love of homemade baked goods…and my hips have yet to forget about them. I spent one year working in a kitchen while going to college. It was the most fun I’d ever had at work. Since then I’ve bounced around in jobs; zamboni driver, reporter, NPR radio intern. After graduating with a degree in Journalism (minor in French, hence all the french bits you’ll see around here),  I moved to South Carolina to be a nanny for a family I barely knew. And that’s when I became a Mrs.

Now I’m back in my home state for half a year, just blogging, cooking and waiting to see where the military will take us next!

I love my husband, writing, cooking, all things French and my dog Boo. This blog will contain gratuitous amounts of all 5.

I’m so excited for you both! I wish I had a passion for cooking (me personally is baking) so we could be the “3 musketeers” once more. 😦

  2. Awww, we’ll always be the 3 musketeers Michelle! I’m not a great baker, so you should share some of your recipes with me 😉
